A patented artistic support ecosystem that saves artists time, money and effort.
OUR MISSION is to clean our oceans of plastic waste, transforming it into tools to expand creativity.
Live counter — updating continuously
Kilograms of ocean-bound plastic rescued and turned into Formaet parts so far — and rising with every kit we make.
Every stretcher bar sold today is fixed-size, glued or nailed, and disposable the moment your project outgrows it. We asked what a canvas system would look like if it were designed for how artists actually work.
Every kit is built from the same family of pieces. Combine them into whatever format your work needs, then add linear sections and connectors later to make an existing canvas frame bigger. Formaet is built to be reused and expanded.
No tools, no staples. Build your support in a few minutes, take it apart and rebuild it as often as you like.
Every piece fits every other piece, so you can build, combine and create your support however you like.
Mounting the fabric is now quick and easy: with just a few clips, your canvas is stretched at high tension.
We take research and development seriously. We developed the Formaet ecosystem with product engineers and protected it with the support of specialist patent attorneys.
If one piece wears out, order just that piece. You'll never have to replace a whole canvas frame again.
No workshop required. If you can build a picture canvas frame from a box,
you can build a Formaet canvas. Drag through the steps below.

Pick a starter kit sized to your project, or a bundle with spares on hand.

Snap the corner keys onto the rails and square the canvas frame by hand.

Stretch and staple your canvas exactly as you would on any canvas frame.

Paint now. When the work grows, release the keys and rebuild bigger.
Start with a kit. Expand with parts. Outfit a whole studio.
Every product shipping in this first production batch — drag on desktop, swipe on mobile.
Encrypted payment processing on every order.
Flat-packed and dispatched within 48 hours.
Years of research & Development backing the formaet ecosystem
100% ocean-bound recycled plastic, no exceptions.

Every rail and key is covered against manufacturing defects.
A. Rivera — Mixed-media artist
I stretched a 30×40 for a client, then resized it to 36×48 without buying a single new rail.
T. Okafor — Painter
Flat-packed six canvases into one bag for a two-city show. Reassembled in a hotel room in twenty minutes.

Formaet® is a modular canvas stretcher system designed to give artists complete creative freedom. It adapts to new sizes, formats and configurations, so you can create without fixed formats or waste.
Formaet® is designed for professional and amateur artists, students, and also for art schools, universities, galleries, museums, and specialised retailers.
Yes. FORMÆT is made from 100% recycled ocean plastic, giving waste material a second life instead of using virgin timber. Because the system is modular, the same parts can be taken apart and reused across many artworks for years, rather than building a new canvas frame for every piece. There’s no cutting, so no offcuts or sawdust, and nothing is thrown away when a size changes: you simply add or rearrange modules. The parts also pack compactly, so they take up less space in shipping and storage than rigid wooden canvas frames, which means fewer shipments and a lower transport footprint.
Yes. FORMÆT is available in several sizes. The largest single unit measures 170 × 170 cm. Because the system is fully modular, you are not limited to that size. Several FORMÆT modules can be joined by swapping the connectors, so you can double the size of a canvas or extend it to whatever dimensions your project requires.
Yes. The FORMÆT clip system holds the canvas at a very high, even tension. The canvas frame is made from recycled plastic, which does not warp, bend or react to changes in humidity or temperature. Traditional wooden stretchers move with these conditions, but FORMÆT does not. Your canvas stays as taut as on the first day.
FORMÆT works with linen, cotton, jute and heavyweight canvas, using four clip sizes:
Clip 1: raw linen and transparent-primed linen
Clip 2: raw cotton, primed cotton and primed linen
Clip 3: jute, primed and unprimed
Clip 4: heavyweight or heavily primed canvas
Use the Clip Hook with the same number as your clips.
Clip two Clip Hooks onto the top edge of the canvas frame, one near each end, and hang them from a wall bracket or anchor. Use the Clip Hook with the same number as your clips. No screws, wire or D-rings needed; every kit includes 2 Clip Hooks.
Yes. We ship FORMÆT worldwide. Shipping costs and delivery times are calculated at checkout based on your destination.
Choosing Formaet doesn’t just get you a better canvas system — it directly funds the removal and reuse of ocean bound plastic, kit by kit.
